Yoga Day

The Yoga Day celebration at Counian Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kovilpatti, featured a seminar and exhibition on June 21. The celebration was inaugurated by Sorubananda of Mutthananada Mutt. B. Devaraju of Gandhigram Rural Institute and yoga master Senthil Murugan were the resource persons for the seminar. A demonstration of rare yoga postures and a photo exhibition on yoga were also arranged at the venue. G. Balu, Principal, welcomed the gathering.

Bridge course

A three-day bridge course was conducted for second and third year students of Madurai Sivakasi Nadars Pioneer Meenakshi Women’s College, Poovanthi, from June 16. C. Ramalakshmi, Principal, delivered a talk on ‘Personality development’ on the occasion.

Training programme

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering of K.L.N. College of Information Technology, Pottapalayam, conducted a seven-day faculty development training programme on ‘Theory of Computation’ from June 6. The programme was inaugurated by R. Vijayalakshmi, Managing Director, Vijayalakshmi Hi-Tech Solutions. K.N.K. Karthik, president, delivered the presidential address. Twenty four faculty members attended the programme.

Fresher’s Day

Fresher’s Day was organised at Dr. Umayal Ramanathan College for Women, Karaikudi, on June 23. V. Balachandran, Registrar, Alagappa University, the chief guest, addressed the incoming students. Principal S. Jeyashree presided over the function. Vice-Principal L. Visalatchi welcomed the gathering. Coordinator of Alagappa Group of Institutions A. Meenatchisundararajan offered felicitations. Head, Department of Computer Science, R. Sivagami proposed a vote of thanks.

Orientation programme

The Parent-Teachers’ Association of Devanga Arts College, Aruppukottai, organised an orientation programme for first year students on June 22 and 23. New students participated in the programme with their parents.

P.S.S. Avadiappan, Assistant Professor of English, welcomed the gathering. B. Ravikumar, Principal, delivered the presidential address.

T. Esakkidurai, Controller of Examinations, offered felicitations. C. Chellapandian, Assistant Professor of History, spoke on “How to prepare for competitive examinations.” M.S.K. Mohaideen of Life Clinic Foundation, Coimbatore, the chief guest, interacted with students and their parents.

M. Karthigai Ganesan, Co-ordinator, proposed a vote of thanks.

Training

The Department of Computer Science of Sri Kaliswari College, Sivakasi, conducted at training programme in basic yoga for students on June 21.R. Muthuselvi, Professor, Department of Computer Science, Kamaraj College of Engineering and Technology, and a team of volunteers comprising Kalirajan and Gandhimathi, were the resource persons.

The relevance of yoga in overcoming stress were discussed with students who were trained yoga postures.

L. Priya, Head, Department of Computer Science, welcomed the gathering.

Lecture

organised

Sri Kaliswari Institute of Management and Technology, Sivakasi, organised a lecture on ‘Be a Leader’ by Sharad Rajaram, Retail Head and Divisional Manager of Titan Industries, recently.

Mr. Sharad spoke about the five main qualities to become a successful leader – having a vision, dream and goals, focus and an internal urge to succeed, being a change agent, conversion of problems into opportunities and being innovative.

Staff enrichment programme

The Department of Chemistry of Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College, Sivakasi, conducted a staff enrichment programme recently. It was inaugurated by G. Abiruben, correspondent.

V. Pandiyarajan, Principal, presided over the inaugural session. Twenty five participants from various colleges of Madurai Kamaraj University, Bharathidasan University, Bharathiar University, Thiruvalluvar University and the University of Madras participated.

They are exposed to advanced concepts in teaching strategies, NQR spectroscopy, Group Theory, inorganic photochemistry reaction and catalysis of Organo metallic compounds.

The National Cadet Corps of the Standard Fireworks Rajaratnam College for Women, Sivakasi, celebrated the International Day of Yoga on June 21 with a talk on ‘Yoga and its benefits’ by D. Sasireka, Principal. NCC cadets participated.

A mass yogasana demonstration by 1200 students was the highlight of the Yoga Day celebration at V.V. Vanniaperumal College for Women, Virudhunagar, on June 21. R. T.R. Vanni Anandham, president, presided over the celebration.

K. Jamila Jothibai, Directress of Physical Education, welcomed the gathering. Velmurugan, District Sports and Youth Welfare Officer, the chief guest, spoke about the importance of yoga.

K. Indra demonstrated the asanas for students. Jeyakumarraja, district athletic coach, proposed a vote of thanks.

In the second

session, Mr. Vanni Anandham distributed prizes to winners of competitions conducted in connection with the celebration.
