Yercaud will now have a new tourist attraction

April 02, 2012 12:39 am | Updated 12:39 am IST - YERCAUD:

Tourists flocking to Yercaud can now enjoy a panoramic view of the adjoining hills, with the district administration proposing to develop an eco-tourism spot at Thalaisolai, about 7 km from Boat House.

Salem District Collector K. Maharabhushanam, here to review the 20-Point Programme, said that visitors enjoy a boat and conclude their trip in this hill resort.

“But there is lot more to enjoy, especially the scenic beauty of the hill from Thalaisolai”, he added.

The proposed spot lies near Annamalaiyar Temple. Once developed as a tourist spot, visitors can view the Servarayan temple from a distance, coffee plantations, spice trees and orange groves. A children's park with playground equipment would also be set up at the spot, he added.

Mr. Maharabhushanam said that roads will be re-laid, basic facilities like toilets, parking lot, roof shelter and drinking water facility will be made available. “Funds are a constraint and the public, estate owners and industrialists should contribute to the development of the area”, he said.

Based on the availability of funds, the district administration plans to complete the work before May.

The spot would be a plastic-free zone and visitors can enjoy both its beauty and serenity.

“No plastic material would be allowed and the spot would be promoted as an eco-tourism centre”, the collector added.

With summer festival expected to begin in May, works have been expedited to establish the Kurinji Park and the new Government Botanical Garden in Yercaud.
