It was wrong to blame the Bharatiya Janata Party for the Election Commission’s decision to cancel the R.K. Nagar by-election, the party’s State president Tamilisai Soundararajan said here on Wednesday.
Talking to newsmen here, she said that the AIADMK (Amma) deputy general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran’s allegations against her party in this regard were unsubstantiated.
The Income Tax had assessed that ₹85 crore had been distributed to voters and during a raid it had seized ₹5 crore. It was this rampant money distribution that had led the EC to take the decision, Ms. Soundararajan said.
“If it can be proved that the persons whose names found in the IT list had distributed money it would result in the government losing its moral right to govern ,” she said.
After indulging in such anti-democratic activities, it was wrong on the part of Mr. Dhinakaran to blame the BJP, she said adding that there was no necessity for the BJP to strengthen its presence in the State by cancellingthe byelection. The party in any case was gaining in strength, she said..
