The Head post office, a heritage building on Rangapillai Street is the preferred location for unique campaigns and protests by various outfits these days. Of the several protests held last week one by a group of people under the banner Indo French Senior Citizens Association demanded the government to confer nationality and voting rights.

The protesters led by D.J. Mounnissamy, president of the association, claimed that they were entitled to French citizenship and voting rights as their birth and nativity certificate had been registered during the French regime.

They also organised a mass despatch of letters to the French government in support of their demands.

Ministerial

staff miffed

Infuriated over non-revocation of suspension orders on some of its members, the Puducherry Unified Ministerial Staff Association is planning a strike demanding immediate action.

Last month the association had complained of alleged private employment of certain officials, including a staffer in the Raj Nivas, Puducherry, who conducted classes for aspirants of competitive examinations under the Direct Recruitment to various posts conducted by the Government of Puducherry and other agencies.

Seeking stern action against the erring officials, they said indulging in private employment is tantamount to indiscipline and the practice was spoiling the image of government and creating a bad impression about government officers among the public.

Some of its members reportedly were placed under suspension following a meeting with an under secretary level officer.

During the meeting with the Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, they were assured of revocation of suspension orders but there was no progress on the promise.

Sore over the inaction on the suspension orders, the members of the association want now to return to the war path.
