Condemning the death threat to writer Perumal Murugan and burning of his book ‘Maadhorubhagan,’ members of Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists’ Association staged demonstration here on Tuesday.

Led by R. Naarumpoonathan, Tirunelveli district president of Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association, the protestors raised slogans against the threat being posed to Mr. Perumal Murugan by a few religious and caste outfits.

The protesters said the threat by caste and religious outfits and the burning of his book ‘Madhorubhagan’ were nothing but an attempt to crush freedom of expression.

‘Ensure safety’

As the threat had driven the writer out of Thiruchencode, the State Government should give due protection to him and ensure his safety.

Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists’ Association office-bearers Udhayasankar, Krishi spoke.
