‘World Vitiligo Day’ marathon

May 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - Tirunelveli:

Leucoderma Awareness Movement will organise a marathon for school and college students here on June 25 on the occasion of the ‘World Vitiligo Day’.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, K. Umapathi, secretary of the Movement, said his organisation was conducting various events, including ‘swayamvaram’ exclusively for the persons with vitiligo, in a bid to ensure social acceptance for them. The objective of the marathon for the students was to create awareness among the public that leucoderma was not a hereditary or contagious disease. “We expect an overwhelming response to this event from the students,” Mr. Umapathi said. Vice-president of Tamil Development and Cultural Centre T.T. Ramesh Raja was present.
