Workers register with welfare boards

About 7.49 lakh workers have registered themselves with various welfare boards in the State that benefited 10.94 lakh in the last 16 months, Labour Minister K.T. Pachamal told the Assembly on Monday.

After the AIADMK government took charge in May 2011, over 2.23 lakh workers registered themselves with the Tamil Nadu Construction Welfare Board and 5.26 lakh workers with the Tamil Nadu Manual Workers Welfare Board and 15 other boards.

During the period from May 16, 2011 to September 2013, the government had sanctioned Rs.257.85 crore to 10.94 lakh beneficiaries under the various welfare schemes, Mr. Pachamal said.

The Minister was replying to a debate on a calling attention notice given by a host of legislators.
