“Work to be over by March 2011”

Road infrastructure developments would be taken up at a cost of Rs. 69.32 crore in Tirunelveli district, according to Collector M. Jayaraman here on Wednesday.

Talking to journalists, Mr. Jayaraman said that a sum of Rs. 25.22 crore had been earmarked for laying and strengthening of roads within the corporation area.

Besides, a sum of Rs. 18.69 crore was set aside towards carrying out 112 road works in seven municipalities and Rs. 25.41 crore for executing 291 road works in 36 town panchayats. The development works were expected to be completed by March 2011.

Moreover, a project proposal for a four-way track from Murugankurichi to Vannarpettai at a cost of Rs. 5.25 crore had been prepared and sent for approval. Similarly, a proposal for a 2.7-km arterial road connecting Thatchanallur-Tenkasi by-pass through Pazhayapettai, Ramianpatti and Kandiaperi at a cost Rs. 4.50 crore had also been prepared and the nod was awaited. Furthermore, he added that laying of service roads parallel to Chellapandian fly-over would be completed before October 15.
