Work on the conversion of a shopping complex into a tourism guesthouse is nearing completion and will be inaugurated in three months.

Originally constructed as a shopping complex and named as ‘Sea Gulls’, the complex was planned to aim at promoting commercial and business on the shores of Karaikal. But, none of the traders responded to the bid for the shopping complex, resulting in the building remaining unutilised for about seven years since its completion in 2007-2008.

Hence, the Puducherry Tourism Development Corporation decided to convert the shopping complex into suits for its efficient utilization.

The redesigning was taken up at an estimate of Rs. 2 crore sanctioned by the HUDCO. Work on two suits had been completed so far.
