Work on to achieve commercial power generation

Works are on to achieve commercial power generation soon from the first unit of the 1000 mw power plant of NLC Tamil Nadu Power Limited (NTPL), a joint venture of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation and the Neyveli Lignite Corporation in Tuticorin.

The trial run of power generation from coal-fired first unit of 500 mw capacity has been in progress over the last one and a half days. During this process, 277 mw of power was generated until Wednesday evening, sources told The Hindu .

Officials would check that the full capacity of power generated was maintained for three consecutive days and declare it ready for commercial operation. After mandatory checks, the test synchronisation of the first unit was executed on February 18.
