Demanding closure of a TASMAC’s liquor retail outlet on Poobalarayarpuram Main Road, a group of women laid siege to the shop on Thursday.

Complaining the drunkards to be creating troubles of all sorts to women and children after consuming alcohol in the TASMAC outlet on Poobalarayarpuram main road, the agitated women prevented the workers from opening the shop at 12 noon. Though 30 TASMAC outlets had been closed by the State Government as part of closing down of 500 shops in the first phase, the problematic shop was still functioning, much to the agony of the public.

Hence, the people’s ordeal continues with drunkards creating nauseating trouble to women and children.

Talks held

After Thoothukudi North Police Station Inspector Sureshkumar held talks with the protesting women and assured them that the district administration had recommended to the government in favour of closing down the shop permanently, the protesting women gave up their agitation.
