A 40-year-old woman hacked her son to death in Periyakulam near here on Wednesday.

The deceased was C. Azhagu Raja (20) of RTU Colony at Kailasapatti village near Periyakulam. His mother C. Pechiammal was arrested in this connection.

Azhagu Raja, a polytechnic college dropout, was often pestering his mother for money. Recently, he beat his brother Sivakumar severely for handling his laptop. Pechiammal issued a stern warning to Azhagu Raja.

Against this backdrop, Azhagu Raja took away ₹2,000 kept in the house without informing his mother on Tuesday. When he again tried to take away money from a hundial on Wednesday, his mother severely warned him.

In a fit of anger, Azhagu Raja attacked his mother with a stick. A highly disgusted Pechiammal attacked him with a sickle, in which Azhagu Raja died on the spot.

Acting on a complaint lodged by Pechiammal’s husband Chinna Kaliappan, police arrested her.

The body of Azhagu Raja was shifted to Government Theni Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem.
