Wind power tariff hit a record low of ₹2.64 per unit in the Centre’s second competitive auction for 1,000 MW.
The second round of auction was for setting up projects in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
The tariff is 23% lower than the tariff of ₹3.46 per unit in the first-ever competitive auction held by the Centre in February this year. That was lower than the prevailing feed-in-traiff of up to ₹5 per unit in the wind sector. After the Centre, Tamil Nadu was the first State to adopt competitive auction for wind power for 500 MW in August, in which the tariff was ₹3.42 per unit. The Centre conducts the wind power auction through SECI, a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The firm is the nodal agency for the competitive auction, and power would be purchased by the Power Trading Corporation from the successful bidder. The onus for the inter-state transmission system connectivity and long- term access lies with the wind project developer.
ReNew Power and Orange Sirong quoted the lowest tariff to win 250 MW and 200 MW respectively. INOX Wind and Green Infra Wind Energy bid for 250 MW each at a price of ₹2.65 per unit. Adani Green Energy bid for 50 MW at ₹2.65 per unit.
ReNew and INOX are likely set up their projects in Gujarat, while Green Infra and Orange have mentioned their location as Tamil Nadu. Against the 1,000 MW capacity SECI received 12 number of bids totalling 2,892 MW capacity of which 9 bids with a cumulative capacity of 2142 MW were shortlisted for e-reverse auction.
