Two forest guards sustained injuries during the rescue operations of a wild bear that fell into a dry well near Krishnagiri on Sunday morning.

A three-year-old wild bear came out of the Neralagiri Reserve Forest two days ago. It was seen roaming near the village Pallakkuzhi in Ganamur Panchayat in the vicinity of the forest when it fell into a 25 feet dry well belonging to R.Murugesan of Pallakkuzhi village on Saturday evening.

The villagers who saw the bear inside the well informed the forest officials. Immediately, forest officials including forest ranger A. Duraikkannnu rushed to the spot with rope nets to rescue the animal. The rescue operations were temporarily stopped after the dusk. Meanwhile, to keep the animal alive, the employees arranged water and fruits inside the well.

On Sunday morning, the employees resumed the rescue operation by putting a wooden scaffold attached with rope nets into the well. When the bear was brought out of the well, the bear started attacking the forest employees in which two forest guards sustained injuries. Finally it escaped into the forest.

The forest employees were being treated at the Government Headquarter’s Hospital.

Earlier on Saturday, the bear had attacked a farmer from the same village while he was guarding an agriculture field.
