Rain continued to lash different parts of Kanyakumari district on Saturday. Water level in Pechipparai, Perunchani, Chittar I, Chittar II, Poigai, Mukkadal and Mambazathuraiyaru dams has been improving, bringing hopes to the district administration of managing the water scarcity this summer.
Nagercoil and its suburban areas have been experiencing intermittent rain with occasional sharp showers for over a week. Kannimar, Mayiladi, Kottaram, Boothapandi and its surroundings received good rainfall.
Rain lashed the catchment areas of Pechiparai, Perunchani and Chittar dams for about three hours on Friday night.
Catchment areas of Chittar II received the maximum rainfall of 70.3 mm till 8.30 a.m. on Saturday, according to PWD officials.
Damage to electronic gadgets due to heavy rain accompanied by lightning was reported in and around Monday Market.
Occasional drizzles occurred in Thiruvattar and Kulasekaram areas since Saturday morning. Tourists were overjoyed by the continuous rain, as it brought more flow in Thirparappu falls.
Rainwater stagnating on Women’s Christian College Road in Nagercoil and in Kottar affected free flow of traffic.
The Mambalathuraiaru dam was brimming with its level at 54.12 feet and the surplus water was released downstream.
The inflow into Pechipparai dam was 109 cusecs, and 257 cusecs in Perunchani. Water level in other dams (in feet): Pechiparai 30.35, Perunchani 62.30, Chittar 11.12, Poigai 8.80 and Mukkadal 9.65.
