Wholesale price of egg drops further

The wholesale price of egg in Namakkal Zone has dropped by 20 paise to be fixed at Rs. 3.95 here on Saturday.

Officials of National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) said that the wholesale price of egg remained Rs. 4.35 from June 27 to August 3. Due to Aadi month and drop in consumption across the country, the price of egg was reduced to Rs. 4.15 on August 4 and was further reduced to Rs. 3.95 on August 6. The average price of egg in 2016 include January (Rs. 4.05), February (3.69), March (Rs. 3.30), April (Rs. 3.40), May (Rs. 3.91), June (Rs. 4.09), July (Rs. 4.35) and August (3.55). The average wholesale price of egg in July remained at Rs. 4.35 which is the highest in the year, the officials said.

With the demand for eggs expected to increase in the coming months due to festival season, the officials said that price of eggs would also increase accordingly.
