White Ibis rescued in Nagercoil

March 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - NAGERCOIL:

A wetland bird, a juvenile White Ibis stranded in a thickly populated area in Nagercoil town was rescued by forest officials of the Kanyakumari Forest Division here on Saturday morning.

Official sources said that on information from a resident of Vetoornimadam in Nagercoil town, District Forest Officer Vismiju Viswanathan deputed some officials along with environment educator S.S. Davidson to rescue the bird.

The team rescued the bird with wounds in one of its legs.

The bird had strayed into the urban area, with no water source for it to get food availability, which is an unusual phenomenon, said Mr. Davidson. After being given First Aid, the bird was taken to Suchindrum lake and was let off since it is the usual habitat of the bird, Mr. Davidson said.
