As the voters entered the aesthetically decorated booth at St. John’s Higher Secondary School in Palayamkottai to cast their votes on Monday, it should have reminded them of the reception they enjoyed during marriages of their close relatives.
The ‘panneer’ sprinkled on them, the sandal paste and kumkum offered to them, the ‘balloon arch’, neatly spread ‘red carpet’, curtains hanging from the windows, etc., all would remain etched in their memory for long as the ‘Model Polling Booth’ had all these features.
The voters, who arrived at the polling station, were politely asked to sit in the chairs put under ‘shamiana’ and wait for their turn.
Interestingly, it was also an ‘All Women Polling Station’, managed by only women personnel, women agents of candidates in the fray and guarded by woman police constables.
“We never expected such a reception here… It will remain in our memory forever,” said Ms. Angeline, who had come to cast her vote along with her family members.
