A day after DMK legislators were said to have termed the AIADMK MLAs as “slaves”, Electricity Minister P. Thangamani said in the Assembly on Thursday that his party functionaries were slaves of AIADMK general secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s love and affection.
“Yesterday, DMK members said we are adimaigal (slaves). I would like to tell them, we are slaves of Amma ’s (as Ms. Jayalalithaa is called by her supporters) love. We are slaves of Amma ’s affection. We are slaves of the love and affection of our Puratchi Thalaivi (revolutionary leader). All the one-and-a-half crore followers of Amma are slaves of her love and affection,” Mr. Thangamani said to the loud thumping of desks by Ministers and ruling party members with Chief Minister Jayalalithaa present in the House.
On Wednesday, after an AIADMK legislator made a reference to “89 scarecrows”, the DMK MLAs took objection to it, as they interpreted it as referring to the party’s strength in the House, and staged a protest resulting in the stalling of the Assembly proceedings. Certain comments made by Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin in the House in response to the remarks about “89 scarecrows” were expunged by the Chair.
