In a move that could help in recharging groundwater, water is being released from the Mordhana Dam for a week starting from April 22. The Public Works Department (PWD) is planning to release 145 mcft of water during this period.
PWD officials said as on Saturday, the dam, with its total storage capacity of 261.3 mcft of water, presently had 190 mcft of water.
A senior official said 240 cusecs of water would be released per day – 70 cusecs through the right main canal, 70 cusecs through left main canal and 100 cusecs through the river.
He said this would help in recharging groundwater level in the area, thereby indirectly benefiting agriculture for irrigation purposes and cater to the drinking water needs of residents.
On Saturday, Commercial Taxes Minister K.C. Veeramani inaugurated the release of water from the dam. Collector S.A. Raman was present.
