Two teachers, including the headmistress of Kudiyampatty Union Primary school, were suspended in connection with the death of a nine-year-old boy in a wall collapse in Harur on Tuesday.
Vishal was killed after a part of the rear end of the compound wall collapsed. According to the RDO’s inquiry, a secondary grade teacher, Devayani , had sent the boy to fetch the gate key that had fallen into a filed on the other side of the compound wall.
The wall had got weak owing to water-logging in the field. The boy had jumped the wall and retrieved key. When he tried to scale it again, the wall collapsed .
Following the inquiry, it was found that the ambulance had arrived at 3.50 p.m. while the school was required to function till 4.10 p.m.
This implied that the teacher rang the bell before the closing hour. Devayani was suspended for dereliction of duty and negligence.
Similarly, the inquiry also found that headmistress Valarmathi, who had gone to attend an AEO’s meeting for school heads in the morning, had not returned after lunch.
Based on the report, District Elementary Education Officer Prabhakaran passed the suspension orders.
