Election officials on Sunday seized 695 wall clocks with pictures of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa from an apartment complex in Karur.

A flying squad team led by L. Sornamanickam of Karur constituency raided the flat at Chinna Andankoil based on a complaint to the district election officials. The wall clocks were stocked in 18 boxes in the car parking space of the apartment, where Jaya TV’s Karur district reporter Padmanaban is residing.

No one claimed ownership of wall clocks when the officials carried out a search. The officials then seized all of them and handed them over to the police station.

The pictures of Ms. Jayalalithaa and ‘two leaves’ symbol were printed on the wall clocks. The name of V. Senthil Balaji, former Transport Minister and district secretary, was also inscribed on the clocks.

Asked whether the clocks were meant for distributing to voters, Mr. Sornamanickam told The Hindu that it was for the police to investigate. However, an enquiry conducted with flat dwellers revealed that the clocks have been lying there for about a year.
