Voters in Tamil Nadu will not buy the shift in the stand of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) with regard to alliance, State secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) G. Ramakrishnan said here on Thursday.

The AIADMK participated in the October 30, 2013 anti-communalism meeting in New Delhi and signed a resolution that called for working against the Bharatiya Janata Party, he said.

In February this year, the AIADMK attended a meeting of secular parties and supported the decision to oppose the BJP.

But now AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa was not critical of the BJP or its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. The AIADMK leader had been evasive saying no criticism was necessary.

The DMK leader M. Karunanidhi too should explain his stand as he had praised Narendra Modi on the one hand and said he was ready to do business with the Congress if the party apologised.

Was Mr. Karunanidhi trying to say that if the Congress apologised, its wrong economic policies of 10 years could be accepted.

Mr. Ramakrishnan said the Left parties were not in a disadvantageous position just because they had not projected a PM candidate.

It was for the elected representatives to choose a leader in the democratic set up.
