The Communist Party of India state secretary R. Mutharasan has said the voters of Tamil Nadu would never accept the promises made in the manifestoes of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Mr. Mutharasan said that the promises made in the AIADMK’s manifesto were nothing but an attempt to fetch votes at any cost since the same party adamantly refused to say anything on total prohibition, waiver of crop loans etc., earlier. It was desperate to come back to power by deceiving the voters through giving false promises.

The Jayalalithaa government had refused to discuss serious issues such as liquor menace, plundering of natural resources, corruption etc., in the Assembly. However, her party’s manifesto was claiming that new policies would be evolved on mining of garnet and granite, Lok Ayuktha would be formed, crop loans would be waived etc. “It’s nothing but a desperate attempt by the AIADMK to cheat the voters,” Mr. Mutharasan said.

The CPI leader also came down heavily on the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, charging that the Karunanidhi-led party had no locus standi to say anything about corruption as a good number of its members, including his family members, were facing cases based on serious corruption charges.

He also criticised the Election Commission in connection with the seizure of huge sum of money from the godown owned by one Anbunathan in Karur. “No proper action was taken in this connection,” he said.

Later Mr. Muthuarasan campaigned in support of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate for Palayamkottai constituency K.M.A. Nizam.
