While most people in Tamil Nadu are still wallowing in poverty, Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi is trying to make his family, “already the richest in Asia,” the richest in the world, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa alleged on Thursday.

She was addressing an election meeting to canvass votes for AIADMK front candidates Ms. Jayalalithaa urged people to vote for the AIADMK front to end the “one-family rule.”

This family controlled all major businesses such as television, FM radio, weeklies, film production, cable TV operation and air services. “Should six crore people suffer to ensure the prosperity of just one family? This election is not just an election meant to bring about a regime change, but to free people from slavery.”

Local problems

At Tirupattur, Ms. Jayalalithaa promised to take measures to create Natrampalli taluk, expedite construction works of railway over bridge at Jolarpet. She was addressing a public meeting in Jolarpet constituency. A fire station would also be set up.

‘Execute democratic duty'

At Kancheepuram, she called upon voters to execute their democratic duty by casting votes consciously to save Tamil Nadu. Addressing an election rally, she alleged that Tamil Nadu was not under “peoples' rule” but under the control of a family. Ms.Jayalalithaa said that women self-help groups would get 75 per cent of their loan as subsidy if the party is voted to power.
