A day after an accord was reached between actor Kamal Haasan and Muslim organisations, the authorities on Sunday ordered lifting of the ban on screening the Tamil film, Vishwaroopam, in Tamil Nadu.
In Chennai, the ban, imposed under Section 144 of the Cr. PC, was lifted by Police Commissioner S. George, while in other parts of the State, it was left to Collectors to do so.
Mr. George told The Hindu that “we have assessed the situation. As the two parties have arrived at an understanding, we are sure that there will not be any agitation. Hence we have revoked the ban.”

When rest of India is screening Vishwaroopam without any law and order
problem it is meaningless for Tamilnadu to suspend it.If Tamilnadu people realise this mindset of
Jayalaltha it is good for state.
This whole episode has been shameful. The government has set an unfortunate precedence by ceding space to fringe groups. Worse, the judiciary has inexplicably set a precedent by not choosing to uphold the jurisdiction of the censor board, which is the competent authority for this purpose. This now emboldens others to become super-inspectors in the future for publicity.
ironically, the movie would perhaps do well due to the massive publicity it's received.
The biggest loser has been democracy, democratic processes and the average citizen.
The brotherly sentiments between hindu and muslim community is inordinate especially in Tamil Nadu, and respects each other with high regards.
This kind of demonstration by certain outwits is first of its kind in Tamil Nadu and it had provoked minds of many which is evident in most of the comments made by readers. Now the hatred virus got initiated in Tamil Nadu (credit to certain outwits and political background) like certain other parts of country
If the film fraternity could dare act, Kamal should boycott releasing his film in the state; the film financiers should waive interest burden on the film and the balance of production loss the film world and public should contribute to fill; This teaches the wrong doers that the law abiding citizen can indeed exercise their right of march in freedom.
From now onwards, all the characters in Tamil films will be portrayed as
good Samaritans belonging to various religious background. No villains!
The audience will see a lot of disclaimer/statutory/health
warnings/advisory before/during/at the end of the movie. The producer,
after getting CBFC certification, should show the already-censored movie
to all the religious groups and get their consent before releasing it in
theatres.
Thank God, the TV media will now shift the focus to the other subject.
Mere banning of a movie that too in one state, the medias went frenzy as
if there is no freedom of speech. Kamal cleverly exploited this to his
advantage and in the end he toed the lines of those groups for early
screening of his movie. In India only film personalities are worshiped
as demigod and people forget that in this world no one is indispensable.
In this particular yet avoidable episode Kamal literally became a martyr
as if the whole country is not safe to live. Let bygones be bygones.
Central Board of Censor is loosing ground to small groups of muslims, who instead of condomning the blood brothers terrorism fighting against an actor´s right to show the impact of terrorism on innocent civilians. It is shame for Indians that still we bend down our knees to colonists
Movie have already got more than enough publicity to become a hit.
The report says that the ban imposed by District Collectors in Tamil Nadu on the
screening of Vishwaroopam has been removed. Does it mean that there is a change
of heart and the film is being released as such without any cuts, since there is no
clarity on this ? It is worthwhile noting that the film has not been opposed by any
religious groups in the North for offending the sentiments of their religion.
Now that this huge fuss is over, we all can mind our work. Cinema should
portray some reality and if a group commits any crime it should be told
out to the public. There is no point in bringing religion here. We are a
society and we are taught that we can dare even God if he is wrong and
opens his third eye.
In democratic India politicians, legislators, executive and judiciary
are aware and interested only in their rights and not about the public
in various walks of life. It will take another 100 years for India to
become a total democracy or within a decade if youngsters realize the
importance of others' rights and uphold them.
