Villupuram not neglected: CM

October 29, 2013 09:36 am | Updated 09:36 am IST - CHENNAI

The Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Monday denied the allegation that Villupuram district was neglected while distributing relief package to drought-affected farmers.

Intervening in Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam legislator L. Venkatesan’s allegation that not even a single farmer from Villupuram district received compensation for crop losses, she said that compensation was distributed to those farmers, who had suffered crop loss of more than 50 per cent. However, the crop loss in Villupuram was less than 50 per cent.

Ms. Jayalalithaa said that Villupuram and Cuddalore were the worst affected districts during the Thane cyclone that hit the State two years ago. Several crore of rupees were sanctioned as relief measure.
