Village people rescue spotted deer at Poraiyur

April 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - METTUR:

A spotted deer which intruded into Poraiyur village on the bank of River Cauvery in search of drinking water was rescued by the local people on Wednesday.

The deer is said to have intruded into the village from the Palamalai reserve forests, while it was trying to get to a water source to quench its thirst during the hot day.

The people managed to catch hold of the deer and took it away to protect it from being attacked and possibly bitten by stray dogs.

Later they informed the Mettur forest range office about the presence of the animal, which was under their protection.

The forest personnel soon reached the location and took the animal away.

They later released it into the Palamalai forests, its normal habitat.
