Party's political stand will be decided at the meet
Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijayakant on Saturday said he would hold a conference on the lines of the one held in Salem in 2011 to elicit views of party members on Lok Sabha polls.
Addressing party cadre and beneficiaries of various welfare measures organised on the occasion of his birthday, the actor-turned-politician said the party’s political stand would be decided after the conference.
The DMDK went alone in the 2006 Assembly polls and again in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls. But, in the 2011 Assembly elections, it decided to become part of an alliance, led by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam after holding the People Rights Retrieval Conference in Salem.
Mr. Vijayakant, who distributed scooters for 100 differently-abled persons as part of his birthday celebration, alleged that illegal mining and sand quarrying were going on unchecked in southern districts. The chairman of the party presidium, Panruti S. Ramachandran, and youth wing leader L.K. Sudheesh were among those who were present.
