Still no clarity on seat sharing

Despite absence of clarity on seat sharing in the BJP-front, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijayakant is all set to begin his poll campaign from Thiruvallur on Friday.

Significantly, digressing from convention, Mr. Vijayakant may also be forced to start his electioneering without announcing his party candidates as the BJP was unwilling to announce the seat allotments even late on Thursday. Traditionally, party leaders introduce the candidates to the voters during campaign meetings and seek support. Sources said that PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss shot off a letter to the BJP high command on Wednesday listing the party’s preferred seats after talks with State leaders remained deadlocked.

These seats are: Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Arani, Salem, Arakkonam, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvannamalai and one among Kancheepuram, Chidambaram or Villupuram. Many of these seats clashed with those wished by the DMDK.

While deliberations continued on Thursday, senior BJP leader L. Ganesan told reporters that State party president Pon Radhakrishnan left for New Delhi on Thursday to meet central leaders and finalise seat allotments. If the deal is clinched, candidates for all the constituencies could be released on Friday itself.
