Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) president and Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Vijayakant, on Friday snubbed the media for asking questions about the party’s poll alliance for the Lok Sabha poll.
“Why should I tell you about our plans on the alliance issue? We will work it out… when it is necessary,” the actor-turned-politician told journalists here after meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
He claimed that during the meeting Dr. Singh told him that the fishermen issue could have been solved through negotiations if he (Mr. Vijayakant) had been the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The DMDK leader, who has come here with 21 MLAs of the party, questioned why Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had not met the PM so far over the issue.
Mr. Vijayakant is camping here and there are reports that he might indulge in political bargaining with the leaders of the BJP and the Congress to work out an alliance for the poll.
Earlier, in a memorandum submitted to Dr. Singh, the DMDK delegation asked the Union government to take up the fishermen’s issue with the Sri Lankan government.
