Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijayakant on Tuesday said that for the last 25 years he had been spending a major portion of his income on the poor and not keeping it in bank lockers or as assets.

Reacting to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's statement criticising him, Mr. Vijayakant said: “For the last 25 years, I have been helping the poor people to the possible extent. On the eve of my birthday, I implement several welfare schemes, using my money. It is not important how you earn money, but how you spend it.” He also pointed out that he had donated his ‘kalyana mandapam' at Mamandoor to the people immediately after the construction.
