Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) president A. Vijayakant on Tuesday filed an anticipatory bail application in the Madras High Court Bench here, apprehending arrest by the Kanyakumari police.

The inspector of Kottar police station in Kanyakumari district had booked Mr. Vijayakant in a case of rioting and intimidation, among other offences, on Monday based on a complaint from the public prosecutor of the district and sessions court, Kanyakumari.

According to the petitioner, there was a wordy quarrel between advocates and the public prosecutor when he appeared before the district judge on Monday. A few advocates belonging to the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam assaulted DMDK advocates, he alleged in his petition.

Mr. Vijayakant stated that he was just standing in front of the judge, but the prosecutor gave a false complaint against him with political motive, he alleged.
