The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) has authorised its general secretary Vijayakant to decide on alliance for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
The executive meeting of the party held here on Thursday in the backdrop of the resignation of the party’s presidium chairman Panruti S. Ramachandran, adopted resolutions authorising Mr. Vijayakant to abolish the presidium chairman post.
The meeting, while accepting the resignation of Mr. Ramachandran, unanimously felt that the party did not require the post anymore. “Hence it has been decided to dispense with the post,” said a resolution. It empowered Mr.Vjayakant to decide on appointing and changing party office-bearers.
The executive, in other resolutions, accused the State government of double standards on Sri Lankan Tamils issue. “On the one hand, it passed a resolution in the Assembly, ahead of the CHOGM meet in Sri Lanka last month, calling for India to boycott the meeting, and on the other demolished the memorial by pro-Tamil outfits in Thanjavur,” a resolution said.
The meeting alleged that the AIADMK failed to find a way out for power crisis and sought to pass the buck to the Centre. It also criticised the government on the issue of mining of mineral resources.
