The District Sessions and Principal Judge, S. Sathi Kumar, issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Vilavancode MLA and Congress Whip in Assembly S. Vijayadharini here on Wednesday in connection with a criminal defamation case filed by Public Prosecutor A. Gnanasekar on behalf of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

The case was filed against Ms. Vijayadharini and TNCC president E.V.K.S. Elangovan for allegedly making defamatory remarks against the Chief Minister at a public meeting held at Karungal Market on July 29, 2015.

Mr. Gnanasekar told The Hindu that Ms. Vijayadharini had informed the court that she was unable to attend the court due to some preoccupations through one of her aides and failed to represent her case through an advocate.

Mr. Gnanasekar objected to this and prayed the judge to issue an arrest warrant against her, as she failed to appear before the court consecutively for the second time.

The judge then ordered issuances of a NBW and adjourned the case to July 15.

The case against Mr. Elangovan would be taken up on Thursday in the district court, Mr. Gnanasekar said.
