Shortly after having been fielded for the second consecutive time to contest from the Viralimalai Assembly constituency, C. Vijaya Baskar, has launched his campaign without losing time.

Mr. Vijaya Baskar defeated the former Union Minister for State for Health S. Reghupathy in the 2011 election from the Viralimalai seat which was created after the delimitation process. He secured the highest margin of 39,303 votes in the district in the last election.

Mr. Vijaya Baskar, who was a long-time district secretary of the party, was inducted as the Health Minister. Although he was stripped of the party post a couple of months ago, he was allowed to retain his berth in the Cabinet

Although Viralimalai is a village panchayat, it is noted for the famous temple dedicated to Sri Subramanya. It was declared as one of the heritage towns in the district the other one being Avudaiyarkovil. Being a village panchayat, wall paintings, and graffiti are allowed on private buildings with due permission from the property owners.

Losing no time after having been fielded in the fray, the AIADMK nominee has painted the party symbol at prominent places all through the village panchayat.

Mr. Vijaya Baskar said that he was fully geared for the campaign. “Having got permission from ‘Amma’ to contest the election, should I hesitate any longer to venture out?” he asked. He said he had drafted a campaign strategy. Basic amenities had been provided in each and every village. Carving out Iluppur as a new Revenue Division and creation of a new taluk with Viralimalai as headquarters are some of the major achievements, he said. The implementation of the Rs. 320-crore combined drinking water supply scheme was another achievement, he added.
