Victims with bleeding injuries and gunshot wounds at Thoothukudi GH

60 victims are under treatment at the GH, 20 police personnel at a private hospital

THOOTHUKUDI

Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital witnessed an unprecedented admission of people with bleeding injuries and gunshot wounds caused during the violent protest at the Collectorate demanding permanent closure of Sterlite Copper unit on Tuesday.

According to hospital sources, the condition of two persons, who suffered head injuries in police firing, is critical. A team of vascular surgeons from Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai has been called to perform surgeries here.

Collector N. Venkatesh said 78 persons, who took part in the anti-Sterlite rally, were injured in the riot. Other sources said around 60 victims were under treatment at the GH here and around 20 police personnel, who suffered injuries, were admitted to a private hospital.
