Viable alternative: Anbumani

March 21, 2014 02:04 am | Updated May 19, 2016 10:11 am IST - CHENNAI:

Former Union Minister and PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Thursday said the constituents of the NDA in Tamil Nadu came together with the aim of providing a viable alternative to two principal Dravidian parties.

Speaking to reporters after the alliance was formally announced on Thursday, Mr. Anbumani said the AIADMK and the DMK had taken the State backward in over 45 years that they had been in power. The coming together of the BJP, the PMK, the DMDK and the MDMK marked a new chapter in State politics where a strong alternative front had been offered to the people.

Asked about the PMK and the DMDK sharing a common plank, he said while the parties had differences in ideology and agendas in the past, such issues had been kept aside for the sake of alliance.

“Our aim now is to make Narendra Modi Prime Minister and provide a corruption-less government,” he added.

Meanwhile, sources in the BJP said that the Kongu Nadu Makkal Desiya Katchi was still unhappy with the allotment of Pollachi seat.
