Venkaiah Naidu announces relief for building collapse victims in TN

Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu has announced an interim ex­gratia

of Rs. 1 lakh each to the families of the five workers who died following a roof collapse in an under-construction guest house at the Central University in Tiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu on Sunday.

On Monday the Minister said the medical expenses of the workers who were injured will be taken care of by the government. Mr. Naidu has ordered an immediate enquiry into the collapse and asked for a report of the incident to be submitted to him by Tuesday.

Five construction workers were killed and 16 others were wounded as per the initial reports. “The Minister has directed Special DG, CPWD of Chennai region to rush to the site, speed up the rescue and relief measures and conduct a preliminary enquiry,” the UD Ministry said in a statement.
