Vellore Corporation commenced the task of cleaning the premises inside the fort here on Tuesday.
It was part of a joint initiative with the District Administration to keep the fort clean and provide basic amenities to the tourists.
Vellore Collector R. Nanthagopal, Collector of Vellore inspected the work of cleaning the operations.
Facilities
The Collector told newspersons that the tourist-friendly measures to be undertaken through the Vellore Corporation in the fort include the installation of drinking water tanks, removing garbage, clearing the shrubs and forming new pathways, installation of LED lights and the setting up of a sanitation office inside the fort.
Surveillance cameras would be installed at the entrance to the fort and the entrance to the Sri Jalakanteswarar Temple located inside the fort.
Patrolling
Regular police patrolling would be arranged in order to prevent anti-social and illegal activities inside the fort.
The Collector directed the Corporation Commissioner Janaki Raveendran and Executive Engineer of the Corporation Balasubramaniam to complete all the above works early in order to enable tourists to visit the fort, and the museum and temple inside the fort. Chandrasekhar, Conservation Assistant, Archaeological Survey of India, Vellore, Dr. Vasanth Diwakar, City Health Officer, Vellore and K. Saravanan, Curator of the Government Museum inside the fort accompanied the Collector.
