The Head Post Office (HPO) at Vellore has extended a new service to its customers.
It recently launched an automated teller machine (ATM), and issued debit cards to 500 savings account holders till now.
Officials said the ATM was opened on April 28. “We have already issued debit cards to 500 account holders. Another 2,000 debit cards have arrived, and we are issuing it to customers,” an official said.
He added that this was the first ATM for Vellore Postal Division, while ATMs have already been functioning at the head post offices at Tirupattur, Ranipet and Arakkonam.
Customers having postal accounts elsewhere and possessing the ATM cards can utilise this ATM to withdraw cash, he added.
The department has been setting up ATMs as part of its Core Banking Solutions (CBS) initiative. Under this, post offices were networked to enable account holders to carry out transactions in select post offices across the country. Many post offices in Vellore postal division are offering CBS.
