After spending close to three weeks meeting the representatives of the party in the district, assembly segment and union level, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate for Salem constituency, S. Uma Rani, started her door-to-door and open vehicle campaign in the city on Sunday.
Party sources said that the candidate met party leaders till March 24, before she started meeting the representatives of various industry and communal associations for the next five days.
On Sunday, she started to meet voters after taking part in a special puja at the Angala Parameswari Temple at Anaimedu in the city. She met women voters in that locality and distributed pamphlets to the voters there. Some women performed aarthi for her, before she started campaigning from an open campaign vehicle. The candidate continued her campaign in Ward No. 9, 10, 11, 32, 34, 35 and 36 in the Corporation. DMK District Secretary (in-charge) S.R. Sivalingam, Former Union Minister and the party’s election (in-charge) for Salem Constituency Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan, State Youth Wing Deputy Organiser R. Rajendran, and State Executive Committee member A. Raja were present.
