Vegetable sales go up at Uzhavar Sandhais

The eleven Uzhavar Sandhais in Salem district, including four in the city, registered sales to the tune of Rs. 57.5 lakh on Chithirai Ammavasai day on Friday.

Turnover

As usual, the Suramangalam Uzhavar Sandhai topped the list with a sales turnover of Rs. 13 lakh. A total of 235 farmers brought about 43,000 kg of vegetables and 8,600 consumers visited the santhai.

About 6,000 consumers visited Thadagapatti santhai and they purchased vegetables and fruits worth Rs. 8.22 lakh. The Hasthampatti Uzhavar Sandhai registered a sales turnover of Rs. 5.06 lakh with 2,800 visiting the same. This was followed by the Ammapettai santhai which attracted about 4,000 consumers to register a sales turnover of Rs. 4.40 lakh. The Uzhavar Sandhai sources said that all the eleven markets in the district attracted over 42,000 consumers on a single day on Friday.
