Vasan criticises conversion bid

December 13, 2014 01:09 pm | Updated 01:09 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Tamil Maanila Congress president G.K. Vasan has criticised the bid by some Hindutva groups in Uttar Pradesh to convert people in large numbers and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to remain silent on the issue.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, he said the RSS, the VHP and the Bajrang Dal were behind such acts that went against the secular fabric of the country.

Mr. Vasan said the party’s membership drive, which began on Thursday, was aimed at enrolling 50 lakh people. This was essential to challenge the 48-year rule of the Dravidian parties. In the long run, the aim was to touch the one-crore mark. For this, he would travel across the State and meet the people.

He said the power tariff increase should be immediately withdrawn and the loses due to administrative inefficiencies should not be passed on to consumers.
