As part of the 66th birthday celebrations of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, programmes were organised by the district administrations and several party wings across the two districts. The events include medical camps, planting of saplings, and distribution of welfare assistance.
K.P. Anbazhagan, Dharmapuri district secretary and Palacode MLA, told The Hindu that special pujas were conducted in all the temples in the district on Monday morning.
Besides these, a week-long programme was chalked out to distribute household items, which include sewing machines, iron boxes and milk cookers to 10,666 people across the district. P. Baskar, Chairman of the Pachamuthu Education Trust, organised a series of programmes to mark the occasion.
Higher Education Minister P. Palaniappan unveiled the welcome arch constructed in front of the Avvaiyar Government Girls Higher Secondary School.
In Krishnagiri, too, party functionaries organised special pujas in all the temples.
K.P. Munusamy, Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development, Prisons, and Law and Justice, who is also the district secretary, distributed sarees and dhoties to 6,666 poor people, 30 two-wheelers to differently abled persons, iron boxes to 66 persons and 50 sets of bedsheets and pillows on Monday evening.
As part of the celebrations, planting of saplings were carried out in the two districts. In Krishnagiri, Mr. Munusamy inaugurated the programme. A total of 6,600 seedlings would be planted between February 24 and 28 in both the districts, said A.K. Ulaganathan, Conservator of Dharmapuri Forest Circle (in charge).
In Dharmapuri, the Collector inaugurated the drive.
Photo exhibitions highlighting the achievements of the government were held in the districts.
