Vaniyambadi town DMK Secy. killed in accident

Sivaji Ganesan (53), Vaniyambadi Town Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Secretary was killed when the car in which he was travelling from Vellore to Vaniyambadi hit a lorry in Jameen village. The incident occurred on the Chennai-Bangalore National Highway in the Ambur taluk police station limits on Monday evening.

Three others including the car driver sustained injuries in the accident.

According to police sources, the incident took place when the lorry proceeding from the Vaniyambadi side suddenly turned right at Jameen village for refuelling at a petrol bunk on the opposite side. The car collided against the side of the lorry, resulting in the death of Sivaji Ganesan on the spot.

Rajiv Gandhi, car driver, and Senthil Kumar and Venkatesh Kumar, the other occupants of the car sustained injuries.

They have been admitted to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital, Adukkamparai.

Mr. Ganesan was the Vaniyambadi Town DMK Secretary for the last 20 years. He was the Chairman of the Vaniyambadi Municipality during 2006-2011. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

Shops down shutters

All shops downed shutters in Vaniyambadi on hearing of the death of Mr. Ganesan who was a popular figure in Vaniyambadi. M.K. Stalin, DMK Treasurer is expected to participate in the funeral on Tuesday afternoon.
