The condition of some of the women protesters has started to deteriorate

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Vaiko has appealed to the State government to ensure the safety of women protesters who have been undertaking a fast for the past four days against the commissioning of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project, as the condition of some of them has started deteriorating.

In a statement issued to the press here, he pointed out that the fourth-phase of the agitation against the project had been going on at Indinthakarai in which 302 women were taking part.

Of them, 12 had been hospitalised as their condition had worsened.

Mr. Vaiko contended that they had resorted to direct action only because of their apprehensions about the project and it was imperative on the part of the government to allay their fears.
