Vaiko jailed in sedition case filed by DMK regime

MDMK General Secretary Vaiko was on Monday lodged at Central Prison, Puzhal, after a Metropolitan Magistrate remanded him to judicial custody in connection with a sedition case slapped on him by then DMK government in 2010.

The city police registered a case against Mr. Vaiko under Section-124(A)(Sedition) and 153(A) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language) for allegedly expressing his views at a book release function at Rani Seethai Hall on July 15, 2009.

This was pending on the file of 14th Metropolitan Magistrate Court for committal proceeding to a Sessions Court.

Mr. Vaiko surrendered before the Magistrate and expressed his unwillingness to execute bail bond.

The Magistrate S.Gopinath remanded him to judicial custody until April 17.

Mr. Vaiko was taken to Central Prison amid tight security.
