MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Wednesday urged the State and Central government investigating agencies to reinvestigate the death of Sadiq Basha, an associate of former Union Minister A. Raja.

Referring to the claim made by K. Prabhakaran that Sadiq Basha was murdered by him and two others, Mr. Vaiko told reporters here that Prabakaran had met him and revealed the startling information about seven weeks ago.

The statement of Mr. Prabhakaran could not be brushed aside as he had stated that he was also present when the murder took place. Hence, the case, which was treated as suicide, should be reinvestigated. No police official in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka should be part of the investigation.

Mr. Vaiko added that if no action is taken, he would seek a direction from the High Court to reinvestigate the case. If needed, he would approach the court with the consent of family members of Sadiq Basha.

On the Election Commission’s decision to defer the election in Aravakurichi and Thanjavur constituencies following complaints of distribution of money to the voters, Mr. Vaiko alleged that the AIADMK and the DMK had distributed money to voters in all 234 constituencies and the PMK in selected constituencies.

The EC, which failed to prevent the large-scale money distribution to the voters, could not achieve anything by deferring the elections to the Aravakurichi and Thanjavur, he said.
