Vaiko effigies burnt

Cadres of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) burnt the effigy of MDMK general secretary Vaiko at four places in Kanyakumari district on Wednesday evening.

Angered over the alleged castiest remark on the DMK president M. Karunanidhi in a press conference in Chennai, the cadres burnt the effigies in Perur junction in Suchindhram, Veppamudu junction in Nagercoil, Manavalakurichi and Azhagyamandapam junction.

According to police, nobody was arrested.

Even as State-level Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leaders were against party chief M. Karunanidhi’s Madurai-based son M.K. Azhagiri, supporters of Mr. Azhagiri and DMK treasurer Stalin joined hands in Bodi in staging a demonstration and burning the effigy of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Vaiko for making sarcastic remarks against Mr. Karuinanidhi on Wednesday.

Supporters of Mr. Azhagiri, led by town party secretary Shanmugam, and Mr. Stalin’s supporters, led by former MLA Lakshmanan, burnt the effigy of Mr. Vaiko in the town simultaneously. Hundred of party cadres staged a demonstration against the MDMK leader.

Dindigul

Similarly, the DMK cadres burnt the effigy of Mr. Vaiko and staged a demonstration in front of the central bus stand in Dindigul.
